TREKKING ITINERARY
Day 1: Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
- Begin your trek at Rongai Gate (1,950 meters / 6,398 feet) after registration and a briefing.
- Hike through cultivated fields and pine forests, keeping an eye out for wildlife.
- Arrive at Simba Camp (2,625 meters / 8,612 feet) for your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp
- Continue trekking through the moorland, with spectacular views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields.
- Reach Second Cave Camp (3,450 meters / 11,319 feet) and enjoy the serene environment.
- Option to hike to nearby caves to aid acclimatization.
Day 3: Second Cave Camp to Kikelewa Camp
- Ascend through the moorland towards Kikelewa Cave, enjoying panoramic vistas.
- Traverse open landscapes and spot unique plant species.
- Arrive at Kikelewa Camp (3,600 meters / 11,811 feet) and settle in for the night.
Day 4: Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp
- Climb steeply towards Mawenzi Tarn, located in the shadow of Mawenzi Peak.
- Enjoy dramatic views and the rugged terrain as you approach the camp.
- Reach Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,315 meters / 14,160 feet) and spend the afternoon acclimatizing.
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Hut
- Trek across the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
- Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,700 meters / 15,420 feet) and rest before the final ascent to the summit.
- Prepare for the summit attempt with an early dinner and rest.
Day 6: Summit Day - Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
- Begin the summit ascent around midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters / 19,341 feet) at sunrise.
- Experience the exhilaration of standing on the Roof of Africa and witnessing the breathtaking sunrise.
- Descend to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut (3,720 meters / 12,205 feet) for the night.
Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
- Make the final descent through the moorland and lush rainforest to Marangu Gate.
- Celebrate your successful climb and receive your summit certificates.
- Transfer back to your accommodation in Arusha or Moshi, concluding your incredible journey.
Included in the 6-Day Climb of Mount Kilimanjaro via Machame Route:
